It all began in 2004, the idea of creating a collection of African-inspired sculptured chocolates sure to delight the young and young at heart.  “I wanted to create a unique product rich in quality as well as being culturally significant.” states artisan chocolatier Serwaa Anokye, owner and founder of Ashanti Chocolat.  Inspired by the people of Ghana, West Africa, the Adinkra Collection was created, a collection of sculptured Adinkra symbols with words of wisdom categorized as follows: Aesthetics, Ethics, Human Relations and Religious concepts.  Keeping that same concept, bringing awareness of an indigenous culture through the medium of chocolate, other products followed and Ashanti Chocolat’s artisan chocolate line grew.  Made from the highest quality ingredients, these chocolate covertures contain 100% cocoa butter giving them a richness not found in lesser quality chocolates.

Our gourmet chocolates are poured into custom-designed molds to make charming gifts, favors, or anytime indulgence.  Even if you’ve given up sugar, you can still indulge in the most decadent chocolates on earth.  Our gourmet sugar-free chocolates are so rich, so exquisite and so incredibly delicious, you will wonder…are these really sugar free.

In the spring of 2006, Serwaa met chocolatier Mary Cosme, owner of Sweet Smelling Savour Chocolates.  Mary, specializing in traditional chocolates such as dark raspberry, champagne, caramel cashews, was seeking to add to her product line luxurious chocolates infused with fruits, herbs and spices.  From that meeting, a friendship and partnership developed, and in the fall of 2006 the two companies merged, forming Sweet Smelling Savour Chocolates & Ashanti Chocolat.
